The ore is contained in a series of structurally complex lodes of Deflector and Southwest deposits.THE ROLEThe Graduate Geotechnical Engineer will report to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer and assist the Deflector Technical Services team with delivering and optimising the safe expansion of mine infrastructure & mining activities by applying your extensive knowledge of rock mechanics and geotechnical engineering principles. THE ROLE

Responsibilities include:

  • Further develop an understanding of procedures in respect to ground stability, ground monitoring, control and mine infrastructure
  • Participate in planning and production meetings and updates
  • Assist in compiling weekly production plan and develop and understanding of required exclusion timeframes for blasting activities and rehabilitation works
  • Documentation of rock mass behavior and stope performance 
  • If applicable, conduct regular checks of the seismic monitoring system for the underground workings, analyze the data produced and communicate outcomes.
  • Contribute to the numerical model for the underground workings to support mining activities (with guidance and tuition from Senior Geotechnical Engineer).

  • Measure and visually assess the stability of the key pillars in the mine with guidance from the Senior Geotechnical Engineer;

  • Assist with the yearly revision of the Ground Control Management Plan, in order to align the operation with changing ground conditions and industry standards
  • Assist the Senior Geotechnical Engineer to train the underground crews on the importance of ground support and ‘reading the ground’

ABOUT YOU

To be successful in the role, the following is essential:

  • Bachelor of Engineering or Science with a Geotechnical specialisation
  • Developing Understanding of statutory requirements of the WA Mining Act and Regulations together with the WHS Act
  • Ability to learn appropriate mining and ventilation software packages and tools:
    • Deswik
    • Rocscience software (Unwedge, Dips, RS2 & EX3).
    • Map3D
    • IMS Seismic Software (Ticker, Trace, Synapse & Vantage)
    • MX Rap seismic software
    • Rock Mapper
    • Quickslope
  • Hold a current WA Driver’s License (manual C Class)
